Photography contract template

A photography contract protects both the photographer and the client: it reserves the date, sets the coverage and fee, says when images will arrive, and makes clear who owns the photos and how the client may use them. Edit it in the browser and send it for signature from the same page; the free plan includes 5 sends a month and never asks for a card.

When to use it

  • Booking a wedding, engagement or family session and taking a retainer.
  • Covering a corporate event, conference or product shoot for a business client.

How to send it for signature

  1. Step 1

    Start from the template

It opens as a document in the editor with both parties' signature, name and date fields already placed. Fill in the bracketed blanks and change any clause.

  2. Step 2

    Add who signs

Put an email address on each party, set the signing order if it matters, add an access code if you want one, and add a viewer for anyone who only needs to read it.

  3. Step 3

    Send it and track it

Each signer gets a link and signs in the browser, no account needed. You see who has opened and signed, and everyone gets the completed PDF with a certificate of completion.

Questions

Who owns the copyright in the photos?
The photographer, under this template. The client gets a license to use the delivered images for the purposes listed, and the photographer may use them in their portfolio unless the client opts out.
Is the retainer refundable?
The template makes the retainer non-refundable because it holds the date. If the photographer cannot attend and cannot find a replacement, the client gets all payments back.
Can clients sign from their phone?
Yes. Clients sign in the browser on any device without creating an account, and both of you get the signed PDF.
